OK. Firstly – I have called this part one, because I know that there are lots of things I could share, too many for one blog – but, to set expectations, I have no idea how many parts there could be – or when I might write them lol.
But, after a couple of weeks of not feeling myself, and losing my mojo, then finally finding it again, I really wanted to share with you some of the things that help me at times like this – in the hope that some of it may just help you.
And – I truly believe its important to share bad times, as well as good times – because life isn’t just abut the up’s. Everyone has downs too.
How each person is affected by low times and how they deal with it will be different. I am in no way a medical professional, or a counsellor of any sort.
But I am a person who feels things, a person who gets so tired sometimes that it’s hard to function. A person who loves to watch fluffy clouds that make her smile, but that cries at films about dogs (Watching a Dog’s Journey whilst typing this was probably a bad idea) and that sometimes feels sad for no apparent reason.
The last few weeks I have felt a bit “off”. Not quite me. And tired. Really tired. I slept for hours. I was so tired I couldn’t pick up a pencil and draw. (and that’s when I know I am not right).
So – what did I do?
Sleep
Well – I slept. Sounds simple – but it’s really important. Our bodies and mind need to rest. So, when you really need to, simply rest – whether it’s a short nap, or a good nght’s sleep and a lie in. (I can tell you, last weekend, I did both!)
Dance like no one is watching (and sing at the top of your voice!)
Turn on the radio, or music app, or whatever you have on which to play music – and turn the volume up (headphones are allowed if you don’t want to wake people up!), and dance.
Yep. Dance.
Seriously – wiggle that behind – wave those arms. It may feel silly – and maybe that is the point, maybe it’s the being silly part that matters – but whatever it is – it’s much harder to feel down when you hear happy music and jump around. Add singing to the mix…. well – just try it.
OK – another reminder, I am not medically trained, or a counsellor – these are just ideas/suggestions that may help you. If you are ever feeling really low the most important thing I can suggest it to talk to someone – a friend, a family member – your GP. (I repeat – talk to someone)
But, on the days where you just feel a little sad or tired, not quite yourself, try some of the things I’ve listed. I’ll start jotting down some others for part two.
Until next time, Much love
