This week on my social media, I made a confession. I rarely, if ever , finish a sketchbook from start to finish. (You can find that post here, on instagram.)
I can’t really explain well. It’s not so much that I get bored with the sketchbook – more like I lose motivation. (There are generally a lot of pages in a sketchbook…).
So – I move on to the next.
Well – I say the next – actually, I often pick up an older one, have anothr go at that, do a few more pages. And that’s interesting – as you can see what inspired me at different times, how drawing styles can change…
I do buy new ones. But (here comes another confession…) – they will sit unused, often for a long time because a) I should really finish an old one first and b) the new is just too nice to use. ( I am the same with new shoes – I can’t wear the new ones in case they get dirty – but I bought them to wear.. I know. Bonkers).
I think also – I am drawing less in my sketchbooks. I tend to just create my items – whether I am painting on paper, wood – whatever it is. I am creating something that (I hope) will be good enough to sell.
Sketchbooks are for ideas, for fun. Why don’t I do that so much these days? I have no idea – but the plan is to change that.
I have reintroduced Sketchbook Sunday – a little feature where I used to share the sketches I had done during the week before. They may be beautiful – they may just be scribbles on a page.
It really doesn’t matter – what matters is, getting something on paper. In one of those books.

During the day – I amy share some sneaky peeks in stories – but whatever I do – each Sunday evening I’ll post a page from a sketchbook.
It could possibly be a different sketchbook each week. Maybe I will even start a new one soon – who knows!
