Hello wonderful folks!
Let’s talk note taking….
I know many, many people love notebooks. Many have lots of half finished ones, as they can’t resists a new one. (Oops – guilty!)
And I don’t know about you – but if I don’t write it down, I will , most often, forget….
But there are be actual benefits to writing things down , and surely its better to write things in a proper book, rather than scraps of paper that could get lost? (That’s my excuse and I am sticking to it…).
It actually can help you (and ease the strain on your brain!)…. but how, I hear you ask?
Well, OK, I don’t hear actually you – but here are 5 actual benefits of writing things down…
A “Note for File”
There are only so many things our brains can retain at any one time – and we all so busy and see so many information sources daily that we just literally cannot remember it all. Writing down important things means you have a record to look back on, meaning your brain doesn’t have to struggle so much to keep that memory handy. It will simply remember there is a note .
Focus
As you have written it down and your brain is struggling less to remember things, it can actually focus better on the task at hand, whatever that might be.
Motivate Yourself
Actually writng down a task or goal makes it more “real” – its been committed to paper making it more likely that you will work towards it.
Reflect and Recognise your Efforts
As well as writing the task and goals – keep a note of your progress. Not only does that help you see the kight at the end of the tunnel – you can reflect and see how much you have actually achieved (we all have those days when we feel we aren’t getting anywhere – this will help you through those).
Create Calm
Finally – writing things down empties them from your brain. So, next tme you have lots of things spinning round your head – thngs to remember, things that are worrying you, things you need to do – grab a notebook and jot down everything. It doesn’t have to be structured, doesn’t have to be neat. You don’t need to deal with them now.
Just write them down for later. It gets them out of your head and gives your brain a rest – and you a sense of relief. You can reflect on them later and sort them into some kind of order if you need to – but at least they are no longer spinning!
So – if you are a notebook enthusiast, do not feel guilty about that passion – you are helping your brain health!
(PS – if you do fancy a new notebook, I do have a range of hand illustrated notebooks and welcome commissions, do visit my shop or contact me for more information).
Happy Writing!
Much Love
